We're Finalists for Best Emerging Business at the 2026 Cavan Business & Tourism Awards
Some news from the brewery: Bréifne Gael Brewing has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Emerging Business category at The Anglo-Celt's 2026 Cavan Business & Tourism Awards. The winners will be announced at the awards night this Friday, 23rd October. The Celt profiled us this week, and you can read the full piece here.
A word from Derek
"Being named a finalist means a huge amount to us. Our beers are now in around 20 shops, pubs and restaurants across Cavan, and to be recognised by our own county's business community is a real boost."
– Derek McKenna, co-founder, Bréifne Gael Brewing
From the kitchen to the Enterprise Centre
Bréifne Gael is the first production brewery in Cavan in more than 100 years, and it started with close to ten years of homebrewing, tweaking malt and hops in search of a better pint. When Ór Dubh won gold at the 2025 National Homebrew Championships, we decided to do it for real. Today every batch is brewed on our 200-litre brewhouse at the Cavan Enterprise Centre, around 400 bottles at a time, filled and labelled by hand. Earlier this month, Ór Dubh took Silver at Blas na hÉireann 2026.
Our beers
- Ór Dubh: Irish stout
- Mo Chroí: Irish lager
- Rua: Irish red ale
- Leann Éadrom: West Cavan pale ale
More than beer
Weekend brewery tours and our monthly Brew School let you see the process up close and brew your own beer with us.
Thank you
To every shop, pub and restaurant that took a chance on a brand-new Cavan brewery, to everyone who has picked up a bottle, and to The Anglo-Celt and the judges: thank you. Congratulations to all our fellow finalists. We'll see you on Friday night.
Where to find us
Our beers are stocked across Cavan in 500ml bottles. Ask for them locally. If you'd like to stock them, email us at info@breifnegaelbrewing.ie. Or book a Brew School session and come brew with us.
Sláinte,
The Bréifne Gael Brewing Team
Déanaimid beoir iontach.
