Now we can finally say it: **Ór Dubh Irish Stout has won Silver at Blas na hÉireann 2026**, the Irish Food Awards, in the Beers – Porters & Stouts category.   ## A word from Derek *"We are incredibly proud to have won silver at Blas. For a brewery that is only six months old, it is an incredible achievement, and it goes to show that this is an excellent beer, having previously won gold at the 2025 National Homebrew Championships."* – Derek McKenna, co-founder, Bréifne Gael Brewing   ## What a Blas Silver means Blas na hÉireann is judged blind. This year more than 3,000 products were entered across over 200 categories, tasted through June and July by a panel of chefs, buyers, academics and industry experts, in partnership with UCC and TU Dublin. Nobody judging knew whose beer was in the glass. Medals were announced in the Blas Village in Dingle on Friday 2nd October.   ## The full results in our category Here's how the 2026 **Beers – Porters & Stouts** category finished: - **Gold:** Leann Láidir – Limited Collectors Edition, Tig Bhric & West Kerry Brewery (Kerry) - **Silver:** Ór Dubh Irish Stout, Bréifne Gael Brewing (Cavan) - **Bronze:** The Crafty Brewing Company Irish Craft Stout, Rye River Brewing (Kildare) Congratulations to West Kerry Brewery and Rye River, and to every brewery that made the final. It's a privilege to share a podium with breweries that have been doing this for years.   ## Six months in We've only been brewing commercially since spring. Every bottle of Ór Dubh is brewed, filled and labelled by hand at our unit in the Cavan Enterprise Centre, 200 litres at a time. This recipe started in our own kitchen, and now, in its first year as a commercial beer, it has a national medal to its name.   ## Thank you To the shops, pubs and restaurants who took a chance on a brand-new Cavan brewery, to everyone who has picked up a bottle and told a friend, and to the Blas team and judges: thank you. This one is shared.   ## Where to find Ór Dubh Ór Dubh (4.3% ABV) comes in 500ml bottles and is stocked in shops, pubs and restaurants across Cavan. Ask for it locally. If you'd like to stock it, email us at [info@breifnegaelbrewing.ie](mailto:info@breifnegaelbrewing.ie). And if you want to see how an award-winning stout gets made, book a Brew School session and brew with us.   *Sláinte,* *The Bréifne Gael Brewing Team* *Déanaimid beoir iontach.* ##### Tags: [News](https://breifnegaelbrewing.ie/blog/tag/news) # Explore for more blog [![Bréifne Gael White Transparent](https://breifnegaelbrewing.ie/hs-fs/hubfs/Br%C3%A9ifne%20Gael%20White%20Transparent.png?width=150&height=150&name=Br%C3%A9ifne%20Gael%20White%20Transparent.png "Bréifne Gael White Transparent")](https://www.breifnegaelbrewing.ie) Unit F1 Cavan Enterprise Centre.
